How to Scan Documents on a OnePlus or Oppo Phone
Scanning documents on a OnePlus or Oppo phone takes about a minute and needs no extra apps: open the stock Camera app, tap More , choose Doc Scanner , and point at the page — the camera straightens the perspective, sharpens the text, and lets you save up to 12 pages as a single PDF. Oppo phones add a dedicated Text scanner for pulling editable text out of a photo.

This guide walks through both built-in options, the multi-page PDF workflow, Google Drive's scanner as a fallback, and a fully private browser method for sensitive documents.
A quick note on the two brands: OnePlus (OxygenOS) and Oppo (ColorOS) share most of their camera software, so the steps below work on both — menu names are identical in the current versions. If your phone runs an older build and a feature looks different, update the Camera app from the Play Store or check Settings > System > Software update first. Nothing here costs money or needs an account.
Method 1: Camera > More > Doc Scanner (built-in, best for most scans)
Both brands ship a proper document scanner inside the Camera app. On current OxygenOS and ColorOS builds the operation path is the same, and OnePlus's own user manual documents it:
- Open the Camera app and swipe to the More tab.
- Select Doc Scanner. The viewfinder switches to a document-detection overlay.
- Point your camera at the page. The app detects the edges, corrects distortion, and sharpens the text automatically.
- Tap the shutter. You can take more than one photo — up to 12, which are combined into a single PDF if you save as PDF.
- Tap Next and adjust each capture: Crop to fix the edges, Effect for black-and-white or enhanced contrast, Rotate to fix orientation.
- Tap Save and choose PDF for a multi-page document, or Image for single pages (Oppo's version also offers a Word document export).
This covers receipts, contracts, forms, and ID cards in one tool. The PDF export is genuinely useful — a 12-page combined PDF is usually plenty for rental applications, insurance claims, and visa paperwork.
Method 2: Text scanner for editable text (Oppo, and newer OnePlus builds)
If you need the words rather than a picture of the page, use the text scanner mode instead:
- Open Camera and go to More > Text scanner.
- Point at the text and capture — the feature auto-corrects distortion and sharpens the shot.
- Copy, edit, or share the recognized text straight from the result screen.
On Oppo phones the same idea appears inside Photos: open any photo, tap the T icon, and use Adjust (stretch the frame for readability) or Enhance (Color, Black & white, or Outline effects) to clean up a text photo after the fact. On newer OnePlus models running OxygenOS 16, the Camera app's AI Doc Scanner and Text Scanner modes are the renamed equivalents — same workflow, same place.
Method 3: Google Drive's built-in scanner (fallback that always works)
Both OnePlus and Oppo phones ship with Google Drive, whose scanner is excellent and identical on every Android brand — useful if your Camera build lacks Doc Scanner:
- Open Google Drive and tap the + (new) button.
- Tap Scan. The camera opens in scanner mode.
- Point at the page — Drive auto-detects and captures, or tap the shutter manually.
- Add more pages with the + button for multi-page documents.
- Tap the checkmark, name the file, and tap Save — the PDF lands in your Drive.
The trade-off is the same as everywhere: the scan lives in Google's cloud. For documents you would rather keep off any server, use Method 4.
Method 4: browser-based scanning (private, no app, no account)
For scans that should never leave your device — IDs, contracts, medical paperwork — the browser route is cleanest: open Scanner.cam in Chrome on your OnePlus or Oppo phone, allow camera access once, and scan. Capture, edge detection, perspective correction, and multi-page PDF export all run on the device itself; nothing uploads to any server. No app to install, no account to create, no cloud copy of your document. If the camera permission prompt does not appear, go to Settings > Apps > Chrome > Permissions > Camera and set it to Allow.
Tips for sharp scans on OnePlus and Oppo cameras
- Turn off beauty filters for documents: portrait retouching softens text edges — disable it in Camera settings before scanning.
- Disable the camera watermark: some ColorOS/OxygenOS builds stamp the model name on photos by default. Switch it off for clean scans.
- Light the page from the side: a lamp off to one side avoids the phone's own shadow on the paper.
- Hold the phone parallel to the page: the auto-detection does the edge work; your job is to keep the phone flat and still.
- Tap to focus on the text, not the page edges, before capturing.
- Scan in batches: for a thick stack, do a quick pass with Doc Scanner (up to 12 pages per PDF) and save incrementally — two 12-page PDFs are safer than one interrupted 24-page attempt.
Which method should you pick?
- One-to-twelve page document as a PDF: Camera > More > Doc Scanner.
- Editable text from a page: Text scanner (or the AI Doc/Text Scanner modes on OxygenOS 16).
- You want the scan filed in Drive automatically: Google Drive's scanner.
- Sensitive document, nothing uploaded: browser-based scanning — the honest CamScanner alternative that runs entirely on your phone.
Does my OnePlus have a document scanner in the camera?
Yes. Open the Camera app, go to the More tab, and choose Doc Scanner — it auto-detects the page, corrects perspective, and can combine up to 12 captures into one PDF. On OxygenOS 16 models it may be labeled AI Doc Scanner.
Where is document mode on Oppo phones?
Same place: Camera > More > Doc Scanner. Oppo's version can save as PDF, image, or a Word document, and also offers a Text scanner mode for extracting editable text from a photo.
What is the difference between Doc Scanner and Text scanner?
Doc Scanner produces a cleaned-up image or PDF of the page — best for filing and sending. Text scanner runs OCR and gives you the editable text — best when you need to copy wording into an email or document.
Can I scan a multi-page contract on a OnePlus?
Yes — the built-in Doc Scanner combines up to 12 photos into a single PDF. For longer documents, Google Drive's scanner or a browser-based scanner handles unlimited pages.
Do I need to download a scanner app on Oppo or OnePlus?
No. Between Doc Scanner, Text scanner, Google Drive's scanner, and a browser-based scanner, you have four working methods with nothing to install.
